Two Yogi Mamas: bending over backwards for Austin Moms
Baby Scoop Austin Mompreneur Spotlight

yoga Two local moms, Meg Elkjer Kanewske and Eileen Crandall Luecke, who have been serving the Austin area as yoga instructors, wanted to form their own yoga "community". These two mompreneurs opened Austin Kula Yoga (The word "Kula", meaning community in Sanskrit) this year with the intention of giving expecting, new and seasoned moms a place to find balance and bonding. Austin Kula Yoga, centrally located in Tarrytown at Windsor and Exposition Boulevard, offers a variety of yoga Kula Classes that serve the needs of busy families by thoughtfully incorporating family yoga, children’s yoga, prenatal, postnatal, and mom-and-baby classes. These inspiring and creative entrepreneurs have created a space that allows parents to practice yoga while their child simultaneously enjoys a yoga class in a nearby room. Infant yoga classes are paired with a hatha class for moms. The babies listen to music to stimulate brain development and are shown gentle movements. (Moms and babies must enroll in a series together to participate.) For more information on on the children’s fall yoga class series, click here. They also offer a full range of adult classes including hatha, vinyasa flow, restorative and therapeutic yoga. In addition to classes, the yoga studio also offers a yoga boutique, which carries a unique mix of items including handmade jewelry and soaps, responsibly produced yoga clothing, and organic body products. Austin Kula really is "a total package" concept. The studio offers party packages for a “girls’ night out” or your child’s birthday party. The party packages include instruction by a certified yoga teacher, use of their studio, and help with set up and clean up. Now that pre-school and CDO programs are starting back up, it’s time to start planning the “to-go” lunch. Here are some lunch ideas to nibble on.

We (The Baby Scoop Crew) love these:
Encourage your toddlers to use utensils at lunch by putting Zoo Pals Funtensils in their lunchbox. These safe, colorful, disposable (but re-usable) plastic utensils make lunch fun and exciting while teaching little tots how practice their evolving table manners. Each fork, spoon and “spreader” is shaped like a different animal and can be washed and re-used over and over, however, at around $3.50/box for 24 ct., they can be easily replaced if lost or stolen by a classmate.

Scoop’s dot com of the week http://www.laptoplunches.com/
Their mission is to create fun, practical food containers and user guides that promote better nutrition and waste reduction. Several years ago, a group of environmentally-conscious moms in California decided to start packing waste-free lunches for their children and themselves. When teachers, parents, and friends became interested in the concept, they began collecting waste-free lunch information to share with them. It soon became clear that families in other parts of the country were interested in learning more, so they decided to post the information on the Web--at www.wastefreelunches.org. In 2001, two of the moms, Amy Hemmert and Tammy Pelstring, decided to make a greater commitment to helping families pack waste-free lunches. They wrote a book of nutritious, earth-friendly lunch ideas and designed their very own reusable lunch container. Their company, Obentec, Inc. (www.obentec.com), was founded in February 2002, and their first waste-free lunch product, Laptop Lunches, was launched in the fall of 2002.
